The Halloween weekend (31st October to 2nd November 2003) sees the first
year of the Westbay Festival, in Portrush, County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
The Westbay Festival is a cross-community
festival organised by Martin and Sorcha Meehan, who have been running
the successful Westbay Folk Club in The Springhill Bar, Causeway Street,
Portrush, County Antrim.
Due to the great success of the
Westbay Folk Club, it was decided by Martin and Sorcha to organise a cross-community
Festival, bringing together an equal number of musicians from: England
and both the North and South of Ireland, to perform in concerts and participate
in music workshops.
The Festival will also incorporate
a slide show concerning racist issues in Northern Ireland, a 'taste of
Asia' food sampling, along with the concerts, sessions and workshops.
